Video Production

The video production unit at iVEC@UWA provides high quality filming and post production services to the University and iVEC. These videos may be promoting the University, provide public outreach resources to research projects or used for internal and external communication.

The formats could be an informative promotion, a documentary of research achievements of staff or students, education video about a hard-to-grasp subject, an interview with a visiting expert, a piano concert of prize-winner students or a public relation video about the University’s involvement in ‘Engineers Without Borders’ – for example. Naturally, we are quite ready to accommodate your own ideas.

The movies can be published on the University’s webpages, on the internet such as YouTube or iTunes, can be included in a power-point presentation or high resolution versions suitable for projection onto a large screens at a conference.

Services

Producing a programme can be a confusing and overwhelming task. We offer the following services:

  • Concept development and brainstorming
  • Scripting
  • Filming
  • Post-production

Expertise

Our producer has vast experience in producing these type of movies. For over a decade he worked with industrial giants such a Diamond Offshore, Sedco Forex, Hamersley Iron, Bristow Helicopters and many others.  He filmed under very difficult conditions such as on oil-rigs in the middle of the Timor Sea in extreme humidity, in underground and open cut mines, the oil fields of Barrow Island, on a fishing boat, from a helicopter, under-water, at the mineral-sand-mine at Eneabba and climbed down the vertical walls into the gorges in the Kimberly and at Kalbarri National Park.

Production at UWA

At UWA, production usually takes place on location. This can be in an office, in a concert-hall, in a museum or on external UWA grounds. We filmed class activities in Albany, climbing the rocks with the geology class, field activities of a masters’-course in the Jurien Bay Bio-diversity hotspot and – literally - in the Kalgoorlie salt-lakes. Some examples of our work:

  • Geology – Albany field trip
  • Plant Biology – Jurien Bay field trip
  • Piano concert
  • Cultural activities at UWA
  • The first woman Guild President
  • Percy Grainger
  • Deaths in custody

Equipment

Currently we offer the following equipment:

  • Sony PMW EX3 camera
  • Senheiser radio and shotgun microphone
  • Arri lighting – 3 point with ‘C’ stand and a dimmer
  • A 15 inch Teleprompter
  • Avid Media Composer workstation for editing
  • Comprehensive, online Music Library

With the exception of the lights the equipment is battery powered allowing it to be taken on-location.
